Being busy isn’t necessarily a bad thing but all too often when our schedules get too full, it leaves us feeling stressed, run down and having no time to ourselves.
Sound familiar? Then it’s time to get some ‘me time’ in your life. Time out for yourself is not selfish – it’s important. Everyone deserves a little time out to recharge, refill our cups and set us up for the new challenges ahead.
At Bliss, we understand the importance of finding time for yourself so here are our top five tips on doing just that, helping to make 2020 truly a year of self-care!
1. Don’t feel guilty
Everyone deserves a little time out. It’s not whether you deserve it – it’s whether you can afford not to have it. We all owe it to ourselves, so give yourself ‘permission’ to have me time! Leave your guilt at the metaphorical door and do what you need to do to take care of yourself.
Remember that you aren’t just serving yourself when you set apart time to recharge, but also everyone around you. By taking care of yourself, you’ll have more energy and attention for the people you love!
2. Choose activities that would benefit you
Ask yourself “what activities make me happy” and “what activities improve my life” and write down all the ways that you could potentially use these activities to take some time for yourself during your week.
Perhaps take a bath, go for a walk, read a book, do some exercise or pick a boxset to binge watch?
3. Start small and build up
It doesn’t matter how much or little time you have to begin with - make those precious minutes count! Time for yourself is often about quality, not quantity, so pick an activity that will give you the biggest impact dose of quality me time.
4. Schedule in the time, and don’t be afraid to say no to others!
In the same way that you schedule in all your other activities ‘me time’ is more likely to happen if you schedule in time for yourself. Remember that the words “I need some time to be alone” doesn’t mean “I don’t want to spend time with you.” It just means, “I want to take care of myself so I can enjoy the time we spend together.” Don’t apologise for asking for what you need – simply letting people know can come with its perks!
5. Know why you’re taking the time
Be clear as to why it’s important for you to take this important time for yourself. Think about how you will feel a year from now, two years, five years, ten years from now if you don’t make time for yourself? Life is short and moves so fast that you often blink, and years have passed. Make it your mission to give yourself more ‘me’ time this year and see how it makes a difference to your life!
