At Bliss we believe in the power of positivity and feeling comfortable and nourished within our hearts and souls, however we understand that during these unsettling times, for many of us women it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep nurturing a positive outlook.
While it is totally human to experience the blues, we want each of our women to have all of the tools she needs to wake up and glow with blissful positivity and optimism. We’ve put together five tips to help our women beat the blues.
1. Positive thoughts mean positive vibes
It’s completely normal to feel overwhelmed by worry and by uncertainty during this unprecedented crisis. However, when we find ourselves submerged in constantly reading the news and focusing solely on our anxieties it can be impossible to let in any positive energy.
We recommend that our ladies take ten minutes every morning to focus on each positive thing in their lives, each thing they are grateful for and everything they can achieve for themselves during the day – maybe you can read another chapter of your new book, or make yourself a delicious meal. Try and shift your internal monologue during this time and focus on the good – and if you want to keep up to date with the news, do it in the afternoon when you have had the chance to build a positive resilience throughout your blissful morning.
2. Find something to look forward to
Having things to look forward to and get excited about is a great way to motivate ourselves to get through the troublesome times. If we feel like we have nothing exciting planned for the weeks or months ahead, this thought can get us down. So, make a list of all the things that you have planned in the next few weeks or months and give yourself something to feel positive about. While we are at home, we can plan video calls with our friends, schedule online yoga classes or design a new wellness space to create once we are out of lockdown. When looking ahead to future months, think about how wonderful that first hug with a loved one will be, or how well deserved the first sip of cocktail will feel finally out and catching up with friends.
This helps remind us the sky isn’t always grey, and there is in fact, life beyond the crisis!
3. Find your smile
Waking up and smiling to yourself will mean starting your entire day with a smile! Regardless of how low you are feeling, there is always going to be something that never fails to put a smile on your face, whether it’s making your favourite dish, listening to your favourite song or having a morning stretch.
Find out what makes you smile and be sure to start your day with it.
4. Get a blissful night’s sleep
At Bliss, we know that the amount and quality of sleep you get can make a huge difference to the mood that you wake up in. If we do not sleep well, or we do not get enough sleep, then we are likely to feel irritable and be reluctant to start the day! See each evening as an opportunity to re-energise yourself, perform some self-TLC and ready yourself for anything that the day may throw at you!
For many of us, sleeping has become more difficult as worries have grown. If you are having trouble sleeping, try setting up a relaxing sleep routine. We recommend that ladies take the time to gently stretch before bed, read a few pages of a comforting book, spray lavender essential oil on their pillows and drift off listening to a soft guided meditation.
5. Compliment others
Make it your mission to compliment five people before mid-day. This may sound like a strange way to make yourself happy but at Bliss, spreading happiness to others is not only our mantra but often the best way to warm our own hearts! As women, we have plenty to worry about already even when we are not in the face of a crisis – so let’s help each other through difficult times and show love and compassion to one another!
While we can’t deliver these compliments in person at the moment, we can harness the positive power of social media to spread joy – try complementing your friends on their new pictures and stories, and why not find some new accounts to follow and compliment them too. This activity is guaranteed to spread smiles through your own social circle and beyond, and will help your own blissful positivity bloom.
